Pioneer Research runs studies at our Miami facility and inside the offices of the doctors who already care for you. Study-related visits and study medication are provided at no cost, you do not need insurance, and our whole team works in English and Spanish.

The basics

What a clinical trial actually is

A clinical trial is a carefully run study that tests whether a new treatment is safe and whether it works. Every study follows a written plan called a protocol, and an independent review board has to approve that plan before a single person can join.

Taking part is always your choice. You decide whether to join, and you can leave at any point without giving a reason and without affecting the care you get from your own doctor.

Step by step

What taking part looks like

Nothing happens quickly, and nothing happens without your written consent. Here is the order it goes in.

You reach out

Fill out the short form or call us. We ask for your name, the best way to reach you, and what you are interested in.

A phone conversation

A coordinator calls you and asks about your health history to see which studies might be a fit. This takes about fifteen minutes.

Informed consent

If something fits, you come in and we walk you through the consent form in full. You take it home if you want to. You sign only when you are ready.

Screening visit

We check whether you meet the study requirements. This usually includes vitals, labs and a review of your medical history.

Study visits

If you qualify, you begin the study schedule. We tell you up front how many visits there are and roughly how long each one takes.

Your protections

These are not courtesies. They are requirements, and they apply to every study we run.

You can stop at any time

Leaving a study will not affect your regular medical care, your relationship with your doctor, or anything else.

Independent oversight

An Institutional Review Board that has no stake in the study reviews and approves the protocol and the consent form before anyone enrolls.

Your information is protected

Your records are kept confidential and are shared with the study sponsor only in de-identified form, as described in the consent form you sign.

What it's like here

The parts people worry about before they call

Most of what puts someone off joining a study is not the study. It is not knowing how any of it works. Here is the honest version.

Getting here is not your problem to solve

If transportation is what stands between you and taking part, tell us. We arrange rides for participants who need them. Nobody should miss a visit because of a car, a bus route, or a family member who could not take the morning off.

Safety is the first question, not the last

No study starts here until an independent review board has read the protocol and approved it. Your study doctor is a practising physician whose office is across the street, not a name on a form, and the same team sees you at every visit. If anything about how you feel changes, we want the call.

Your first visit is mostly talking

We go through the consent form with you line by line, in English or Spanish, and you ask as much as you want. Take it home and think it over if you would rather. Nothing is done and nothing is signed until you are ready, and saying no costs you nothing.

You get a person, not a call centre

You will have a direct number for your coordinator — someone who knows your name and knows your study. Participants call us between visits, and sometimes between studies, just to check in. That is the relationship we are after.

Common questions

Questions people actually ask

Will I get a placebo?

Some studies include a placebo group and some do not. If a study you are considering does, we tell you before you consent, and the consent form states your chance of being in each group.

Does it cost me anything?

No. Study visits, study procedures and study medication are paid for by the study. You are not billed and your insurance is not billed for them. You continue to pay for your regular, non-study medical care the way you normally would.

Do I need insurance?

No. Pioneer Research does not bill insurance at all.

Am I paid to participate?

Most studies reimburse participants for time and travel. The amount depends on the study and on how many visits it requires, and it is written into the consent form you review before you sign.

Where would I go for my visits?

Either our Miami facility at 9159 SW 87th Avenue, or your own doctor’s office if the study is running there. We tell you which before you enroll.

Do you speak Spanish?

Yes. Our team is fully bilingual, and consent documents are available in Spanish.

What if I change my mind?

You can withdraw at any point, for any reason or no reason. We will talk you through any steps needed to stop safely.
